New Delhi: India’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution is moving at a record pace, with 4.4 million EVs registered by August 2024. However, a major roadblock is slowing down this growth—the lack of proper charging infrastructure. While more people are switching to EVs, many struggle to find charging stations, raising concerns about the future of e-mobility in India.
Growing Demand, Limited Charging Stations
With EV adoption rising, the demand for charging stations has increased significantly. However, EV owners frequently share their frustration on social media, highlighting long queues, malfunctioning chargers, and the lack of fast-charging options. For many potential buyers, the fear of running out of charge without easy access to a station is a major reason they hesitate to switch to EVs.
Government & Private Sector Taking Action
To tackle this issue, the Delhi government has announced plans to install 13,200 new charging stations across the city. This move aims to make EV charging more accessible and reduce range anxiety for users.

With continued government support and private sector participation, India’s EV charging infrastructure is expected to improve. However, until then, the lack of convenient charging options remains a significant challenge for EV users.
